All three clean smooth glass well; none does it all for you: you still move the robot from pane to pane and clip the rope.

Our take
The cheapest robot here that Which? has covered, and a solid shopper rating for the price. Fine for framed windows; skip it for frameless balustrades or shower screens.
Why not the Kärcher RCW 2? Which? includes it (two rotating microfibre discs, optical and pressure sensors, a 4-metre safety rope, but round pads that can miss corners). On 18 October 2026 we could not find a UK listing selling the robot itself, only its spare covers, so it is not in our top 5. Older Hobot models are out too: the 2S was unavailable on that date, and the 388 was only offered by a third-party seller at £319, almost the price of the newer S7 Pro.
Suction figures are manufacturer claims, measured in different ways by each brand: use them as a rough guide, not a ranking. Sizes from Which?. "Check listing" means the listing does not say clearly.
Do robot window cleaners actually work?
Yes, on smooth flat glass, with caveats that the honest reviews agree on. The Good Housekeeping Institute gave the Hobot S7 Pro 86/100: it sprays, wipes, then makes an automatic second pass to buff away marks. TechRadar's tester found the same robot cleared surface dirt but left visible track marks where it pivoted, while a colleague had better results with an Ecovacs Winbot W2 Pro Omni (TechRadar). So results vary by model and by glass.
What a robot will not do: move itself from one pane to the next, handle Georgian bars or grid windows (Which? says they cannot navigate around them), or shift paint splashes and baked-on bird droppings. Pads need washing or replacing between sessions so they do not spread grime.
How long does one window take?
Good Housekeeping timed the Hobot S7 Pro at four to five minutes per window, slower than cleaning it by hand. Hobot itself claims about 2.6 minutes per square metre. On a typical house that means a robot session takes longer than a quick wipe, but your part is limited to placing the robot, clipping the rope and moving it on. In the Good Housekeeping test the S7 Pro also had to stay plugged in, ran about 20 minutes before needing a break, then charged for three hours.
Inside, outside and high windows
This is where robots earn their price. TechRadar's tester used one behind protective railings that a person could not get to, and on the outside of third-floor windows. One fall happened there: the rope, tied indoors, caught the robot and nothing was damaged. Robots also work on mirrors and shower screens. For outside glass you need the robot placed from inside, a socket within cable reach (unless it runs cordless, like the W2S Omni), and a dry, calm day.
How much does a robot window cleaner cost in the UK?
Prices we saw on 18 October 2026:
£50 to £200, unbranded: dozens of no-name robots from £50.99 to £199.79. Big suction numbers, little UK after-sales support. We do not recommend them.
£150 to £260, entry-level brands: AlfaBot X7Pro at £149.99, Ecovacs Winbot Mini Gen 2 at £178.20 (list price £259).
Around £330, mid-range: Hobot S7 Pro at £329, the same price Good Housekeeping quoted.
£400 to £600, premium with a station: Ecovacs Winbot W2S Omni from £424.15 (list price £529) and W2S Pro Omni at £599 (list price £549). The W2S Pro without station lists at £399 on Ecovacs UK.
Running costs: replacement pads, for example £16.99 for Hobot S7 Pro pads and £10.99 to £12.98 for Mini Gen 2 pads. Against a window cleaner: Good Housekeeping puts the average UK visit at £30; cleaning every two months, a £329 robot pays for itself in about two years.
What to look for in a robot window cleaner

All robots stick by suction from a motor or vacuum pump. Most run on mains with a backup battery; the W2S Omni can also run cordless. Brands quote suction in Pa, but each measures differently, so treat the figure as a rough guide.

Water spray and pads
Some robots need you to spray the pads first; the five above all have an onboard tank and nozzles. Check that pads are machine washable and how much spares cost.

Edge detection and frameless glass
A square body gets closer to the edges than round pads (Which?). For frameless glass you need sensors that stop the robot at the edge: Which? notes the AlfaBot X7Pro has none.

The backup battery keeps the robot on the glass if the cable is pulled or the power cuts out. The rope is the last line of defence: tie it to heavy furniture indoors, every time.

Which? advises checking that the power cable reaches your windows from the nearest socket. An app adds modes (edge, spot, deep) but the robot still needs you to place it.
Robot window cleaner vs window vac
A window vac is a cordless wet squeegee: you spray and wipe, it sucks up the water. Kärcher's WV 2 Plus N cost £64.97 and the WV 6 Plus £79.99 on 18 October 2026. Which? points out window vacs are mostly used for condensation, and that on glass you can reach easily they are cheaper and faster than a robot. A robot is the better buy for high, outside or awkward panes, or if you simply do not want to do the scrubbing. They complement each other well.
